Raymond A. Winkel

Anderson - Raymond A. Winkel, 81, Anderson, passed away at his home on July 6, 2005 after an extended illness. He was born June 13, 1924 in Douglas, Kansas, and lived his life in Anderson and Shoals, Indiana. He was employed at Lynch Corporation and General Motors from where he retired. A member of both the Shoals Church of Christ and Columbus Avenue Church of Christ, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Franklin during World War II. He enjoyed bowling, loved taking the family on camping trips and was an avid fisherman. One of his proudest achievements was when he and wife, Cona, bought and, then ultimately again, lived in his boyhood home in the scenic hills of Martin County, Shoals, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cona Mae Harper Winkel; son, Timothy Ray Winkel of Anderson, Steven Winkel of Bloomington, David & wife Somjay Winkel of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter, Joy & husband Mike Brown of Pendleton; stepchildren, Vickie Swanson & companion Roy Robinson of Middletown, Randy & wife Brenda Hughes of Anderson; Mickey & husband Tim Parsons of Shoals, Tammy & husband Shawn Spears of Knightstown; grandchildren, Lilly Winkel, Jamie Brown, Michael Brown, Heidi & husband Brad Horton, Hank & wife Annette Swanson, Travis Lunsford, Michelle Hughes, Justin Hughes, Aleshia Wilson, Dusten Henderson; 10 great grandchildren; brother, Marion & wife Betty Winkel of Aurora, Colorado; sisters, all of Anderson, Velma Clayton, Hazel & husband Charlie Dickmann, Joyce & husband Bobby Day, Phyllis York; sisters-in-law, Norma & husband Dick Musick, Patsy & husband Ray Smith, Wilma & husband Kenny English and his devoted caregiver, Robert McQuire. Preceding in death were parents, Ray & Lula Blackwell Winkel; son, Danny Winkel; brother, Glen Winkel; sisters, Violet Winkel, Susie Pollard; grandsons, Jade Swanson, Jamie Lunsford and granddaughter, Cheree Hughes. Services will be Monday, July 11, 2005 at 11:30 AM at Columbus Avenue Church of Christ with Pat McDaniel officiating. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #266. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.
