Lavern "Vern" D. Crawford

Lavern (Vern) D. Crawford, 86, of Anderson, passed away quietly in his sleep into the arms of Jesus on August 30, 2016 at his residence in Anderson, IN. He was born, February 12, 1930 in Brownstown , Illinois and resided in Anderson since 1974. Vern was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. He retired from Guide Lamp, division of General Motors in 1993 after 20 years of employment. He previously worked for Hillman Jewelers, Continental Bakery, and managed Sherwin-Williams and MAB stores in Terre Haute, Marion, and Anderson, and was a self-employed painter for several years. He loved spending time with family and friends and was loved dearly. Anyone who met Vern instantly liked him as he had a contagious joy of life. He was faithful in prayer and study of the Bible. He was a member of the Central Wesleyan Church, Anderson, IN, where he served as a song leader, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Trustee, and Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the Lambert's Music Life Club, and was President of Survivors of Homicide of Madison County. He served in the Korean war in the United States Army. Vern is survived by his loving spouse, Darlene (Lockart) Crawford of Anderson, IN, daughter, Pamela (Joey) Johnson of Greenfield, IN, son, Kevin (Lori) Crawford of Anderson, IN, sister, Ilene (James) Lawson of St. Peters, MO, sister, Donna (Harold) Moore of Marshall, IL, brother, Garry (Beverly) Crawford of West Branch, MI, grandchildren, Tyler Johnson, Maggie (Derek) Johnson, Josh (Martha) Crawford, Lauren Crawford, Ben Crawford, great-grandchildren, Brody, Mazie, and Freddy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Marie Crawford, and a son, Kent Crawford. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8pm on Thursday, September, 1, 2016 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, Anderson, IN. Services will be held at 1pm on Friday, September, 2, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Alexander officiating. Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson, IN .
