John Cecil Brantlinger

Anderson - John C. Brantlinger, 78, Anderson, went to be with his Lord on March 12, 2005 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born April 10, 1926 in Ingalls, Indiana, was raised in Lapel but lived most of his adult life in Anderson. He retired from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors in 1979 after 33 years of service. He was a graduate of Lapel High School. He was a proud US Navy veteran of WWII who served on the USS LCS L 3 51 Flat Bottom Boat. He received several medals including the WWII Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal with two stars, the Presidential Unit Citation with one blue star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was a member of the UAW Local #663, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #266 where he served as a trustee for many years. As a member, he took on many responsibilities such as cooking, special charities, decorating the graves of veterans, building floats for parades and building the new part of the VFW Post #266. He also participated in the 21 gun salute when a veteran would pass away. He was also a member of Amvets and the Madison County Voiture #510 40 & 8 Club and The American Legion #127. He was known for his wit, sense of humor and for being a great cook. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was loved by his children and adored by his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends. He is survived by his four children, Bill & wife Patty Brantlinger of Pendleton, John E. & wife Vikki Brantlinger of Frankton, Karen E. & husband Douglas Melton of Anderson and Terry L. & wife Dianna Brantlinger of Sarasota, Florida; two sisters, Alberta & husband Dave Gerber of Noblesville and Lavonne & husband Bill Hobbs of Lapel; a brother, Kenneth Brantlinger of Lapel; Loving companion of fourteen years, Rachel Wilhoite- Anderson; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years and the mother of his children, Mabel Lawson Brantlinger on July 22, 1990; his parents, Earnest & Pearl Hooper Brantlinger and a brother, Robert Brantlinger. Services will be 2:30 pm Tuesday March 15, 2005 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Rev. Larry Barkdull officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm Monday March 14, 2005 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, South Chapel. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
