William E. Staublin

On March 8, 2011, the brilliant light of a well-lived life dimmed to darkness when William E. "Bill S" Staublin left his earthly body, and went to be with our Lord. He was born September 27, 1942, the second of three sons, to John and Pauline Bishop Staublin in North Vernon, IN. Within a family of accomplished and respected farmers and carpenters, Bill S was raised working with his family on their farm. He was a graduate of North Vernon High School, and went on to serve in the Indiana National Guard. He moved to Anderson in the 1960's and began his 30 career with General Motors. He moved to Middletown in 1990 and, following his retirement in 1991, he focused his passion on his wood-working craft. Inspired by his friend and "mentor", the late Charlie Gentry, Bill S' carpentry skills were masterful. He also remained true to his farming genetics by producing a spectacular garden each season. In the truest sense of the word, a jack-of-all-trades, together with his life-long friend, Jim Brown, he meticulously restored a 1968 Chevy Malibu convertible for his beloved wife, Amber Poor, whom he married on September 9, 1993, and fondly referred to as "Blondie". Bill S. was a member of the American Legion Post 216, Middletown, and held the office of Adjutant for many years. His workmanship and talents are evidenced throughout the Post from the hand-crafted bar and display cases, to the shelter house in back, built under his supervision. To honor his dedication and service the membership will establish six 6 Memorial Fellowships, and the Annual Legion Golf Tournament will award one 1 Memorial Fellowship to students studying the Building Trades at Shenandoah High School. The ultimate organizer . . . or at times, instigator, Bill S loved getting his friends and family together. Whether planning a vacation cruise, holidays at "The River", houseboat trips, bus trips, or a BBQ featuring his culinary classic ribs . . . he was a cherished, and truly loved friend, a one-in-a-million man! On September 26, 2010 over 150 of his "closest" friends and family gathered to celebrate, in true fashion, his 68th birthday. Under clear blue autumn skies, laughter, music, good food and fun it was . . . a bittersweet tribute to the man whose spirit will forever live in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, and several aunts, uncles and family members. Left to cherish his memory are: wife, Amber; stepsons, Shayne Lydia Myers Shipley, grandson Gage, Muncie, IN. Matt Brown Nicole, granddaughters Taylor Webber and Caylee Brown and grandson Connor Brown Anderson, IN; mother-in-law, Barbara Jane Saunier of Anderson, IN; brothers, Jim Myrna Staublin, Los Angeles, CA, and John Lee Donna Staublin, North Vernon, IN; and cousin Tom Hadley Frances Anderson, IN, also dearest life-long friends, Jim Penny Brown, and Craig Jackie Oakes; and other special friends, Bill "Porky" James, Dan Baugh, Jim Rosie Kitchens, Frank Teresa Bandy, and the late Roy "ROR" Vickie Robinson, and countless others too numerous to list. Last, but certainly not least, "Zoie Rose" and "Mia", his two special loving furry companions. Bill's wishes are to be cremated and there will be no funeral or visitation services.
