William (Bill) McCarty

William (Bill) McCarty, passed away at home with his wife by his side on August 20, 2026, after an extended battle with kidney disease. Above all else, Bill valued family and helping others in their own battles with illness-especially children. He spent years caring for his parents, Betty and Jimmie, after working as a bookkeeper for his dad’s chiropractic office. You may have seen him riding around Anderson over the years on his Honda Blackbird or his Harley motorcycles. Bill graduated from Highland High School in 1976, and earned a degree in business management from Ball State University. Bill was a Mason and served as a Shriner. Bill was active in the Madison County Shrine Club as a Board Member, a driver in the Dessert Patrol unit, and served as Vice President and President in 2012 - 2013. Bill married the love of his life, Erin Hays, and officially joined her family, on September 10, 2005. Erin and Bill enjoyed simply spending time together attending car races, watching all Indiana sports teams, and enjoyed numerous travels to places such as West Virginia to visit family and Gatlinburg, TN. Bill and Erin spent many evenings with Erin’s parents enjoying Colts and IU basketball games. Bill loved being a dad to his two stepdaughters, Jennifer Kimble (nee Lawler) and husband James, and Melissa Jaynes (nee Lawler) and husband Justin. He adored his three grandchildren: Jayden, Jaxson, and Jareth Kimble. You could see Bill’s beaming smile as he drove his Shrine buggy in circles around Jennifer and Melissa, and in fancy patterns at parades. He especially enjoyed getting a young Jennifer (his Little One) onto his motorcycle for rides. This joy transferred to his grandsons as well; Bill treated them to miniature motorized Raptors that matched his own-color and all. Survivors include those mentioned above as well as family in West Virginia, including his beloved Uncle Charlie and Aunt Linda, and their children, Sean and Lucy. Few knew of Bill’s illness as he often downplayed himself, and just carried on as he liked to say. His toughness and resilience may have been lesser known than his other traits, but those around him are grateful for it as it gave them more time with him.
