Rev./Chaplain Larry Green

Anderson Rev./Chaplain Larry Green passed from the comfort of his home in Anderson, IN into heaven on October 14, 2010. He was born February 25, 1935 in Detroit Lakes, MN to parents, Leon and Irene Green. He married Virginia L. Erickson in Grand Rapids, MN in 1956. Larry served six years in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He worked ten years as a Coater Operator at Blandin Paper Company in Grand Rapids, He graduated from Anderson College BA in Religion and Psychology and from Anderson School of Theology M-div. Ordained by the Church of God, he served as Senior Pastor of churches in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. He completed Clinical Pastoral Education and became a Board Certified Chaplain. His Chaplaincy began in the Department of Mental Health for the State of Illinois 13 years. He served as a chaplain at St. Johnï¿½s Hospital in Anderson, retiring after 10 years of service. He will be remembered as a caring, compassionate man with a huge smile and a "radio voice" that spoke boldly the truths of the Gospel from the pulpit, shared one on one the wisdom of life from an educated mind and expressed softly from the heart, the love of God to everyone he met. He and Virginia shared a life of ministry, world travel, fun times and struggles with unwavering love. His children adored him, his grandchildren looked up to him, his many friends and co-workers respected him and he had no enemies. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Gini and three children, Scott wife, Rhonda of Anderson, Marisa husband, Ron Bernard of Anderson, and like-son Del wife, Wenell Erickson of Otsego, Minnesota. Brother, Gary wife, Wanda Green of Detroit Lake, MN. Two sisters, Janet Schons of Detroit Lakes, MN and Bonnie husband, Ed Gray of Tucson, AZ. Five Grandchildren, Alysa husband, Nick Villelli of Columbus, OH, Brittany Bernard of Anderson, Christopher Green of Anderson, Lauria Green of Anderson, Joshua Bernard of Anderson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Irene Green, and three nephews, Gary Green Jr., Daniel and Mathew Schons. The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Madison Park Church of God, Scatterfield site, Anderson, with the Rev. Jim Lyon officiating.
