Phyllis Joan Woodruff

Phyllis Joan Woodruff, 84, of Anderson, passed away on September 10, 2014 at her home. Joan was born in Anderson on August 21, 1930, to Francis L. and Clarence H. Helmick. She lived most of her life in Anderson and graduated from Anderson High School in 1948. She was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Anderson. On August 13, 1950, she married Billy Max Woodruff and they spent the next year in Philadelphia, PA and the State of Rhode Island, while her husband finished his tour of duty in the United States Navy. They then returned to Anderson to raise their family. Joan's primary focus in her early adulthood was the rearing of her three sons, Mike, Randy, and David. As the boys grew older, she worked as bookkeeper for the Dearing Drug Stores. Joan had many interests outside the home, as well, including golf, bowling, following her sons sporting activities, and most importantly, she had a love of art. She was an accomplished artist, talented in many media, including, sewing, knitting, painting, and drawing. Her artistry significantly enriched the lives of her family and many friends. Joan is survived by her sons, Mike (Sue) Woodruff, Randall (Lucetta) Woodruff, David (Ann) Woodruff, grandchildren, April Woodruff, Alyson (Jeff) Elder, Brent (Cara) Woodruff, Cara (Brian) McIntyre, Ian Woodruff (Casey Scofield), Jordan Woodruff (Jessica Hartley), great-grandchildren, Jaylen Hobson, Lilly McIntyre, Will and Evelyn Elder, Blake Woodruff, and Jordyn Woodruff. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Francis L. and Clarence H. Helmick, husband, Billy Max Woodruff, and her granddaughter, Sarah Lisette Woodruff. Mike, Randy and David would especially like to acknowledge and thank Joan's caregivers, Ann Woodruff, Tina Snyder, April Woodruff, Cara Woodruff, and Jessica Hartley for their devotion and kindness to her in her last months and days. Visitation will be held 9:30-11:30am on Monday, September 15, 2014 at the Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd. St. Anderson, IN 46013. Services will follow at the funeral home beginning at 11:30 with Rev. Art Jaggard officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
