Nancy Ellen Sutton

Nancy Ellen (Schweikarth) Sutton, 79, resident of Lake Lemon, Unionville, IN, and formerly of Anderson and Evansville, passed away peacefully at home on April 3, 2022. She was born September 9, 1942, in Evansville, the second of five children to Arnold E. and Elsie M. Schweikarth. Nancy was a 1960 graduate of North Posey High School. She graduated from Evansville Teacher’s College (University of Evansville) in 1964 with a Bachelor of Education degree. Nancy then attended Indiana University where she met her future husband and graduated with a Master of Education degree in 1966. She later attended Ball State University to get her special education degree. Nancy began her career in South Madison School Corporation, taking time away from teaching after Jim and she adopted her two children. She then went on to teach within Anderson Community School Corporation as a special education teacher for 17 years, retiring in 2003. After retirement, Nancy and Jim moved permanently to Lake Lemon outside of Bloomington, where she enjoyed making more friends, boating, and hosting many a Happy Hour. She was a member of Anderson First United Methodist Church and the University of Evansville and Indiana University alumni associations. Nancy was a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority and P.E.O. in Anderson for many years. She was a lover and protector of all animals, and also enjoyed warm weather and vacationing in Florida. Nancy is survived by her children, Jonathon Howard Sutton and Joanna Jean Sutton; her sister and brothers, Jean (Magdi) Salib, Don (Jill) Schweikarth, Jim Fathera, Bob (Becky) Schweikarth, and Stacie Schweikarth Krieger; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry (Maureen) Sutton and Howard (Brenda) Sutton; and 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James W. Sutton, on March 1, 2022, her parents, her father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Charles A. and Edna M. Sutton, her brother-in-law, Larry Krieger, and her sister-in-law, Connie Fathera. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 12, at 12:00 P.M. at Anderson First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson Street, Anderson, with Rev. Corrine Boruff officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, April 11, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson.
