Myrtle Davis-Yoder October 4, 1936 - March 19, 2015 Anderson, IN A dedicated mother, loving grandmother and follower of Christ, Myrtle Davis-Yoder passed away peacefully Thursday, March 19, surrounded by her children. She lived a simple life filled with beauty and grace. Born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, she lived in many places before making Anderson her home. She attended Madison Park Church of God and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Myrtle read the Bible cover to cover approximately 15 times, and more importantly, lived those words everyday. She embodied Christ's love through a giving heart and an acceptance of people from all walks of life. The oldest of four siblings, Myrtle was a caregiver her whole life. She devotedly raised her three children, and later cared for her husband Billy Gene Davis, until his death in 1985. She spent many of her later years caring for her mother, Mary Bunch, until her death in 2009. Myrtle saw each day as a gift and opportunity-rising with the sun to read, tend to her garden, create and care for others. She understood the power of a handwritten note to celebrate, encourage or just provide a little cheer. She famously made yeast rolls that melt in your mouth, garden-fresh zucchini bread, chocolate chip "Grandma Cookies", a cherry cobbler that tasted like the best days of summer and Christmas candies that were carefully packaged for family and friends. Never idle, Myrtle skillfully crafted everything from crocheted blankets and beaded jewelry to delicate doilies and sweet clothing for her children and then grandchildren. She was strong-willed, sometimes stubborn, but unkind words never left her lips. Her love and example was a force that continues to touch family and friends. She lived her last several years at Vermillion Place where she received loving care and made some very special friends. This was also made possible by the assistance she received from Visiting Angels and Gentiza Hospice. Myrtle is survived by her children, Ronald Davis, Cheryl Davis-Land (George) and Sandy Beaty (Dave), and five grandchildren, Kyle Beaty (Michelle), Candace Beaty Gwaltney, Karen Land, Morgan Land and Christopher Land; and one great-grandchild, Aurelia Reis Gwaltney. A private service will be held on Monday.
