Marilyn Sue Lane

Marilyn Sue (Boze) Lane, 86, went to her heavenly home on December 31, 2025, from the Rawlins House in Pendleton, Indiana. Sue, as she was known to family and friends, was the daughter of William Paul Boze and Elsie Elizabeth (Guenther) Boze. Sue married the love of her life, Ernest F. Lane, in 1954. Together, Sue and Ernie raised three boys Steve, Bruce, and Bret. Sue was a loving mother but was known to keep three spirited boys in line with a look or a flick to the back of their crew cut heads. She worked for Sears & Roebuck in Anderson where she met two of her closest life-long friends, Jenny McCoy and Bonnie Landis. The three ladies made it a point to continue to get together after they all left Sears, and they enjoyed many trips together despite not all remaining in the area. Sue also worked for St. John’s Hospital in the Emergency Room as a registration clerk, and finally for Best Lock in Indianapolis before retiring in the late 1980s. Sue was a member of Fall Creek Christian Church for many years, where she enjoyed singing with the choir, and most recently she attended East Christian Church in Markleville, Indiana. Sue leaves behind a legacy of memories and funny stories. Some people march to the beat of their own drum, but Sue hummed to the tune of her own melody. If you asked her what she was humming, she would tell you that she didn’t know because she was just making it up as she went along. She was known for her fried chicken, friendship bread, and hosting family gatherings over the years. Despite never swinging a club, Sue loved golf and was known for watching The Golf Channel on TV. She could tell you about every golfer and most of their families. She was a devoted armchair caddie to her favorite golfer, Phil Mickelson. The years of driving around Indy inspired Sue’s inner racecar driver and she contributed to the economies of a few small towns in the area and most likely still holds the record for the fastest run through a carwash. She was in a deeply committed relationship with black coffee and enjoyed drinking it all day long. Sue never missed an opportunity to complete the crossword puzzle in the Herald Bulletin and was not happy when they stopped publishing the newspaper daily. She singlehandedly supported Alfred Dunner clothing line and was rarely seen out of her typical “uniform” of dress pants, a white blouse, and a blazer complete with one of her numerous and beautiful pins on the lapel. Besides her husband of 60 years, Ernie, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Paula Tyree. Those left behind to find joy in her memory include her sons, Steve (Becky) Lane, Bruce (Debbie) Lane, and Bret Lane, her grandchildren Jessica Lane, Cara Lane, Jarod (Kirsten) Lane, Lindsey Lane, Jordan (Jericka) Lane, and Tierney Lane, several great grandchildren, her brother Keith Boze, a special cousin Larry Boze, and cherished friends. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 1:00 P.M. at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson with her son, Steve Lane, officiating. Burial will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice, as Sue would be the first one to tell you that flowers didn’t last long around her.
