Lula Belle McGonigle

Anderson - Lula Belle Nichols-Palmer McGonigle, 92, Anderson, died December 15, 2002 at Countryside Manor, Anderson after an extended illness. She was born October 12, 1910 in Branch County, Michigan, had been an Anderson resident since moving here in 1928. From childhood until she was first married, she was a switchboard operator for the Terhune-Sheridan area. She was a 1927 graduate of Sheridan High School. She was a time study engineer for Ward Stilson for 25 years. She was a bridal consultant for The Banner Store & Weilers from 1957 to 1979. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Anderson for 72 years. She taught Sunday School, was a deaconess, a church board member, Indiana Baptist Women's Group locally and statewide, charter member of Homebuilders Sunday School class and most recently a member of the Olivet Sunday School class. She was a member of Soroptomist Club, a longtime member of Golden Rule Home Ec Club. She was formerly very active with her children's school activities band, band camp, sports,etc. and was season ticket holder for Anderson High School Basketball for over 50 years. She is survived by her daughters, Betty & husband Carl Erskine of Anderson, Jeanie & husband Robert Phillips of Columbia City and Cheryl Palmer Brinduse of Inverness, FL; a brother, Oren L. Nichols of Venice, FL; seven grandchildren, Dan & wife Pam Erskine of Anderson, Gary & wife Beth Erskine of Pendleton, Susan & husband John Short of Belleville, MI, Jimmy L. Erskine of Anderson, Craig E. & wife Liz Phillips of Vero Beach, FL, Betty A. Overdeer of Columbia City and Nancy & husband Douglas Graft of Columbia City; thirteen great grandchildren, Dannae Erskine, Abby & husband Brad Franklin, Amy Short, Luke Short, Megan Truesdale, Jessica Overdeer, Jamie Overdeer, Allison Overdeer, Craig E. Roberts, Melissa Phillips, Alex Phillips, Kayla Graft and Austin Graft; very special families of Sam Thurston and Carson McGonigle; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her first husband whom she married May 28, 1927, Lowell D. Palmer who died on August 3, 1976, her second husband whom she married February 14, 1979, Samuel Thurston who died on January 4, 1984, her third husband whom she married in 1985, Carson E. McGonigle who died on October 8, 1995, her parents Logie D. Nichols & Lena M. Hundley Mathis, and three brothers, Jacob Lavere Nichols, Ralph E. Nichols and Olen Robert Nichols. Services will be Thursday, December 19, 2002 at 11:30 AM, at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Dr. Mark Hetrick and Chaplain Gloria Long officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson. Visitation will be from 3-8 PM on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at Robert D.
