Lucille Smith

Lucille Smith, 87, Anderson, passed away on April 21, 2022. She was born May 21, 1934, in Livingston, Tennessee. Lucy moved to Anderson in 1966 and remained a resident until her death. A lifelong restaurant professional, Lucy worked at several locally known restaurants, including Don's BBQ, Country Kitchen, L&K Restaurant, and Ike's Great American Restaurant. She became the owner and operator of Lucy's Family Dining in 1988 and ran it for 28 years. Lucy was well known within the community for her amazing home cooking, catering, hospitality, and generosity. She was the original internal staff kitchen operator for the Hoosier Park Casino for two years when it opened. Lucy ran her diner at the same time while operating a successful catering business for local weddings and events. She also hosted monthly business breakfast meetings for several local businesses in Anderson and the Anderson Chamber of Commerce monthly breakfast meeting. True to her original Southern roots, Lucy was a NASCAR and racing fan and sponsored multiple local drivers at Anderson Speedway. Aside from Lucy's humble beginnings to her success with the restaurant business, her greatest asset by far was her kind heart and willingness to love and help others with no limit. She was fiercely proud of her family and is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lonnie. Together they share a total of 10 children combined. Her surviving children are Thurman Walker Jr., and wife Kathy, Indianapolis, Bill Walker, and wife Pam, Livingston, Tennessee, Johnny Smith, and wife Lora, Noblesville, Terri Russell, and husband Dave, Indianapolis, and Tim Smith, Indianapolis. Lucy is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Jane Ann Roberts, Livingston, Tennessee, Bailey Jolley, and husband Mason, Livingston, Tennesse, Blake Walker, Livingston, Tennessee, Madison Walker, Attleboro, Massachusetts, Harrison Walker, Indianapolis, Zack Smith, Indianapolis, Nick Smith, Indianapolis, Maisy Russell, Indianapolis, Garrett Russell, Indianapolis, Heather Edwards, Bloomfield, Indiana, and Autumn Wells, Martinsville, Indiana; her great-grandchildren, Austin Looper, Livingston, Tennessee, and Justin Roberts, Livingston, Tennessee; an expected great-grandchild (from Bailey and Mason Jolley) in 2022; her stepchildren, Brenda Ellis and husband Dave, Springville, Indiana, and Michael Smith and wife Tammy, Bardstown, Kentucky; her siblings, Mary Hunter and husband Earl, Baxter, Tennessee, and Jerry Garrett and wife Charlotte, Livingston, Tennessee; her nephews, Jason Hunter and wife Kaythryn, Nolensville, Tennessee, Jake Garrett, New Palestine, Indiana, and Travis Garrett and wife Jenny, New Palestine; and her niece, Lisa Daulton, Alexandria, Indiana. She was preceded in death by parents, Lassie and Willard Garrett; her brothers, Eugene and Kenneth Garrett; her sister, Eudeane McDonald; her son, Tony Walker; and her stepsons, Richard Smith and Danny Smith. A celebration of Lucy's life will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America (dementiasociety.org).
