Linda L. Mikel

Linda L. Mikel, 70, of Alexandria, passed away, August 3, 2017, at her home after a 10 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born, June 29, 1947 in Anderson. She graduated from Indiana Academy in Cicero and from Hinsdale in Illinois, with an Associates of Nursing. Linda was known for “doing the right thing, the right way” regardless. This carried over into her life passions of: Family, Nursing and Church. Linda is survived by her daughter Yvette (Rick) Hill of MI, brothers: Bruce (Monetta) Kreger of OK, Michael Kreger of TN, Steven (Tammy) Kreger of Anderson, sisters: Janet (Larry Black) Truman of NV, Carol Zizak of Anderson, step-brother Jesse (Susie) Landess of Daleville and step sister, Joyce Underwood. Grandchildren: Joshua Hill, Mikaela (Matt) Morrison, and Jacob Hill, and great grandchildren: Kayla, Zoey, and Emma Morrison. She was preceded in death by her parents: Alfred and Lucille Kreger and nephews: Joshua Kreger and Justin Kreger. Linda was the matriarch of her family and known for holding everyone together as she promised her father she would. She is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends. She had 7 nephews, 10 nieces, and 16+ great nephews and great nieces who were like grandchildren to her. She retired from Community Hospital as a Med-LPN after 37 ½ years, and a nursing career of 50 years. She was a recipient of the Nursing “Heart Award” in 2015. She was a mentor to numerous nurses, and other medical staff at the hospital. Recently in life, she found their affirmations of her ‘teaching’, very fulfilling in knowing that she truly, “made a difference, in this world”. Linda was a lifelong member of the Anderson SDA church and generously supported Pathfinders and Christian education. The love of her church family during her battle with cancer, was overwhelmingly precious during this time. Linda was always “putting others, before self”, and even during her battle with cancer, found a way of making her experience, benefit others going through their own battle. Visitation will be held from 4-8 on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Loose Funeral Homes, with services being held at 10AM on Friday August 11th, with Ron Whitlow, Jesse Landess and Pastor Whitman officiating. Burial will follow, at the E. Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson. Linda loved flowers, however, Memorial contributions may be made to Anderson SDA Church: Pathfinder club or Cross Street Christian School (but flowers are welcome).
