John T. Lipe

John T. Lipe, a devoted family man, veteran, and avid outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, at Ascension Hospital at the age of 77. Born on March 1, 1947, in Anderson, Indiana, to John W. and Annabelle C. Lipe, John grew up in a close-knit community, attending Forest Hills Elementary and Madison Heights Junior High before graduating with the Madison Heights High School Class of 1966. Shortly after graduation, John answered the call of duty, serving in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968, with 15 of those months spent stationed in Vietnam. Upon returning, he began his long and dedicated career at Delco Remy, where he worked from 1966 until his retirement in 2006. Known for his hardworking spirit and loyalty, John was respected by his peers and beloved by his friends and family. John cherished life’s simple joys, especially those spent with family, friends, and fishing pole in hand. A passionate fisherman, John took great pride in the art of bass fishing, becoming a member of various bass clubs. His creative side found expression through photography as a member of the Killbuck Photographer's Guild, capturing moments that spoke to his love for nature and family. John is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Becky; his sister, Susan K. Adams; his sister-in-law, Karen Penticuff; and his nieces and nephew, Brandon Penticuff (and fiancée Lydia Ross), Michelle Shelton (Daniel), and Amanda Adams (Vince). He will be fondly remembered by his great-nieces and nephews: Jordan Penticuff, Justin Adams, Ashton Shelton, Lilly, and Allen Adams. John’s beloved son, Caleb ("Kilo") Lipe, preceded him in death and was dearly missed every day. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 408, located at 5100 Mounds Rd, Chesterfield, IN, where friends and family are invited to remember and honor John’s life.
