Indianapolis-Man in capsule. Life in summary. Impossible. John Paul Dickmann physically passed from this earth on Tuesday May 4, 2010 at the age of 80, but he is far from gone. You can't still a force of nature. He is remembered. The Essentials: John, also known as Dad, Pa, and sometimes You Sonuva$#%^$ started his journey on May 4, 1930 in Greenfield. As a boy he passed papers, stocked shelves at the A & P and was manacled to a backyard tree by his mother just to make him think about any misdeeds he may have committed. Justice on Brandywine Creek. John graduated from Greenfield High School where he excelled in basketball. He survived his bucolic boyhood to go on to Indiana University where he earned a B.S. in Business in 1952 and went on to earn a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the IU School of Law in 1957. While at IU he met the lovely and equally strong-willed Carol Cheatham. They married and stayed married for 50 fifty, that's right kids, 50 fifty years! The result of this union would be three beautiful, talented, and vastly divergent children. John and Carol had enough faith in their genes to let their progeny forge their own destinies. What a gift! After serving in the army during the Korean Conflict, John practiced law for 30 years in Anderson, Indiana. Retiring in 1989, John and Carol spent their summers in Indiana at Lake Wawasee and winters in Cape Coral, Florida. He was able to devote much of this time to playing golf where he netted three holes-in-one and occasionally broke even at the bridge table. Preceded in death by his beloved Carol, John is survived by his three children, Patti, Fritz and Doug, daughters-in-law, Leslie and Sheryl; and grandchildren, Max, Allie, Ava and Ashton. All miss him profoundly. A celebration of his life will occur Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 2-4:00 pm at the home of Doug and Leslie Dickmann; 737 Cranberry Drive; Greenfield.
