James W. Tommila

James Wayne Tommila, also known as Jim, passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 62 in Carmel, Indiana. He was born on January 16, 1961, in Oakridge, Oregon. Jim was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished friend, and respected mentor. His warm and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He had a remarkable sense of humor and a deep faith in God that guided him throughout his life. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Tommila, and his daughters Jacinda, Keaira, and Isabella Tommila. He also leaves behind his brothers Richard, Wilhow (Tawnya), and Ray Tommila, as well as his sister Sharon (Randy) Powell. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law Charlotte Abbott and Donna (Paul) Daniel as well as several nieces and nephews. Special mention goes to those he loved and cared for as his own, Ashley Wilson, Selena Tommila, Trystan Tommila, and Cristianna Iteua as well as his favorite Uncle Bob Blankenship and Aunt Irene Mason. He is preceded in death by his father Wesley Tommila, mother Janice Blankenship Tommila, father-in-law Ira Mason, mother-in-law Lillie Fuson Mason, sister Candi Hernandez, paternal grandparents Josie and Willow Tommila, maternal grandparents Milburn and Emma Lou Blankenship. Additionally, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law J.E. Mason, Wentford Abbott, Ray Partin, and sisters-in-law Shirley Partin, Diana Mason, Sue Mason, and Sherry Mason. Jim honorably served his country in the US Coast Guard from 1981 to 1985 working for a time as a boiler operator on the USCGC Ingham. His dedication to duty and commitment to service exemplified his character. After his military service, Jim held various positions, including that of a Millwright, boiler operator for Springfield Forest, a Realtor for Coldwell Banker, and a Manager for Arab Pest Control. From 1998 to 2021, he worked his dream job holding titles of conductor and engineer at Norfolk Southern Railroad. He was a Railroader through and through. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, and woodworking in his free time. These hobbies brought him great joy and allowed him to visit many of his favorite historical sites. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at Loose Funeral Home & Crematory, 200 W. 53 St. Anderson, Indiana. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 1 pm to 4 pm. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11 am at Loose Funeral Home. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in eternal peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
