Hazel M. Stamm

Hazel M. Stamm, 90, of Anderson, passed away on July 11, 2014 at Community Hospital, Anderson, IN. She passed away after a brief illness. She was born January 11, 1924 in Mecca (Parke County), Indiana. She was the second of six daughters and one son born to Perry and Elsie (Fiscus) McCreary. She also had a half brother and a step sister. She graduated from Mecca High School in 1942 and moved to Anderson. She worked at Walgreen's Drug Store at 11th and Meridian, then at Delco-Remy. In 1945 Floyd L. Stamm, Jr. returned to work at Delco Remy after being in the Army. That is where Hazel and Floyd first met. In 1947, they were married and were married sixty years when he passed away in January of 2007. Hazel was still living in the same home that Floyd helped to build for them and their four children in 1956. She loved fishing and spending time with their family and friends at their lake in Bartholomew County for 38 years. She loved to bowl and bowled on teams for 25 years, winning many plaques and trophies. She bowled in the Senior Nations in 1990 in Reno. She was very happy when she bowled the highest game of 288 in the Women's State Tournament at Cooper's Sport Bowl in 1991. She enjoyed going antiquing at festivals and Antique Malls with her daughters and sisters. She started her collection of Gravy Boats in 1970. She had over 600 with only five duplicates. Surviving Hazel are two daughters, Ruth (husband, Bill) Moto, and Jean Schaefer; son, Jerry (wife, Brenda) Stamm; and step-son, Verl (wife, Linda) Stamm. Also surviving are grandchildren Paul (Anita) Schaefer, Trevor (Mindy) Schaefer, Todd Schaefer, Addison Stamm, Bryan Stamm, Heather (Josh) Oaks Kirby and Aaron (Amy) Oaks; step-grandchildren, Fred Stamm, Ryan Stamm and Brittnay Taylor; great grandchildren, Christopher Moto, Alexis Flynn, Rylan Schaefer, Dylan Schaefer, Jaquelyn Schaefer, Quinten Stamm, Elijah Stamm, Brooklyn Oaks, Alexis Oaks, Patrick Oaks, Waylon Kirby and step-great granddaughter, Molina Stamm; sister, Pauline Brooks of Michigan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Orville ((Junne) Stamm, Virgil (Helen) Stamm, Dorothy (Jim) Farmer, Doris (John) Kane and Lewis Stamm; several nieces and nephews and their families. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Floyd in 2007; daughter, Linda Oaks-Chew on May 25, 2014; grandson, Mike Moto in 1988; son-in-law, Tim Schaefer in 1988; and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Schaefer in 2002; sisters and their husbands, Eleanora Louise and Noll Andrew, Avis and Edwin Lanham, Thelma and Jim Walker; sister, Sondra Phillips; brother, Addison McCreary; half brother and wife, Wayne and Betty Nolan; step-sister and husband, Jennie and Bernard Lawry; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Naomi and Bob Vickers, Glenn and Maralene Stamm, Nancy Stamm, Kenneth Nelson, Carl Brooks and Bill McWithey. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 pm, Monday, July 14, 2014 at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory; 200 W. 53rd Street; Anderson. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Joe Huff. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson.
