Eugene Gayle Roach, Ph.D., M.D.

Anderson - Eugene Gayle Roach, Ph.D.,M.D., 70, Anderson, died October 6, 2002 at Providence Hospital-Mobile, Alabama after a brief illness. He was born January 12, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky, and resided in Anderson, Indiana. He lived in this area for the last 15 years. He retired from St. John's Health System in Anderson in 1997, and was working part-time as a staff psychiatrist at the Anderson Psychiatric Clinic and Stepping Stones of Anderson. Previously, he had been a child psychologist at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, served for several years as Assistant Commissioner of the Division on Mental Retardation and other Developmental Disabilities and in private practice at St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. He received his B.S., M.A. from the University of Louisville, his PhD from Purdue Univeristy in 1962 and his M.D. from Indiana University in 1971. He co-authored the ''Purdue Perceptual Motor Survey'' with Dr. Newell Kephart. He was a Fulbright Scholar from 1966-1967. In Cario, Egypt-assisted in design and development of programs for the Egyptian Government for the developmentally disabled. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson, and was named an honorary life member of the national board of directors for the American Cancer Society in recognition of his over twenty years of service to them. He also previously served in the City of Indianapolis Board ot Safety, Salvation Army Board, and other community boards. He was honored as Sagamore of the Wabash in 1988, Kentucky Colonel in 1997 and Distinguished Hoosier in 1997. He is survived by his Wife of 51 years: Mildred Moorhouse Roach. Son: Charles H. Roach II of Indianapolis. Daughter: Glenna G. Roach of Columbus, Ohio. Nephew: George Mohr of Alberquerque, New Mexico. Niece: Rebecca of Nashville, Tennessee. Aunt: Catherine Conn of Louisville, Kentcuky. Cousins: Harold Haller, MD; John D. Conn; Dick Mohr; Shirley Magruder; Robert Chambers; Ruth Lusk and Linda Haller Bogard, all of Louisville, Kentucky. Brothers-in-law: J.P. Moorhouse of Tennessee. William J. Moorhouse of Tennessee. Sisters-in-law: Imogene Moorhouse Trewhitt of Tennessee. Peggy Moorhouse Sones of Tennessee. Joyce Hueg of Ventura, California. Special Friends: Sisters of the Holy Cross of Anderson; Sister Marilyn, Sister Delores and Sister Cathlene. Larry & Donna Clymer of Anderson. Robert Williams of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery-Louisville, Kentucky, Friday, October 11, 2002 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, South Chapel. 200 W. 53rd St. Anderson and from 11-1:00 PM, Friday, October 11, 2002 at the cemetery.
