Elsie Wilson

Elsie Wilson, 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 9, 2017, at Bethany Pointe Nursing Home in Anderson, Indiana. Born April 2, 1921 in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, she is predeceased her late husband, John T. Wilson. The first years of their life together, were spent in northern Michigan, moving to Detroit during WWII. Later a move to North Dakota with many of Elsie’s family proved to be an adventure but the call of “home” brought them back to Michigan where they settled in Flushing, Michigan. Mom was a strong woman and homemaker who raised her children with love and integrity. Her children were supported in all their activities. In order to participate more and be involved , Elsie became a 4-H leader and a Rainbow Girls' Mother. She was a life member of Eastern Star. She instilled in her girls a love for sewing and creating as well as community involvement. Elsie’s education was finished at the 8th grade but her longing for knowledge never ceased. Her favorite group of ladies was the Michigan Home Extension club. She volunteered to go learn each month’s topic and then bring it back to teach her friends. She learned so much from these activities from home finances to nutrition and she handed this knowledge to those around her. Later in life, Elsie found she had more talent than she realized when she was asked to be secretary to the Pastor and congregation at Beacon Baptist Church. Her office skills, friendliness, and caring are still remembered by this church family. When John had medical problems and retired, they moved to their favorite “snowbird” destination in Florida where they lived until after John passed away and Elsie’s health required a move to live close to family in Anderson. Survivors include her daughters, Muriel Addington, Sharon LeVeque (Warren), Diane Wilson, and son, John L. Wilson. Elsie was from a family of ten children, her surviving siblings are Lloyd Stearns and Clarissa Davis. Also Elsie has eleven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and at last count, 9 great-great grandchildren.
