Bonnie Fern (Shaw) Cowan

Bonnie Fern (Shaw) Cowan, 86, of Anderson went home to her heavenly home on March 6th, 2025 at the Middletown Nursing and Rehab Center, Middletown, Indiana, following an extended illness. She was born on August 18, 1938 to Leonard and Dorothy L. (Moore) Shaw at Pendleton, Indiana. She graduated from Markleville High School in 1956. She married L. Harold Cowan on February 2, 1958. They were married for 64 wonderful years. They raised their family of 3 children in Markleville, Indiana and then moved with Nicholson File Company in 1976 to Cullman, Alabama for 41 years. She was a long time member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Cullman, Alabama for 40 years. She was very active in the women’s ministry guild, and served the Lord in many ways. She was a member of the Quilting Club in Cullman, winning blue ribbons for her quilts in the Cullman County Fair. She was a loyal member of Camp Sumatanga Emmaus Walks in Gallant, Alabama. After moving back from Alabama to their home state Indiana in 2017, she became a member of New Horizons Methodist Church in Anderson. She enjoyed quilting, (making many beautiful quilts), cooking, (making wonderful home cooked meals, and coveted pies). crocheting, and needlepoint. She and her husband had a small business with woodworking projects, where she completed all the intricate woodworking masterpieces. Her favorite pastime was playing the piano, and was self taught to play the dulcimer in her late 70’s. She was a terrific euchre player and partner. She and her loving husband enjoyed traveling, and made several trips to Disney World, to neighboring states, and cities. They were loving, and caring grandparents. They never missed an event for their children and major events for their grandchildren. Many trips were made from Alabama and Indiana. Bonnie is survived and will be terribly missed by her three children; daughter, Delaine Wooden (Keith) of Pendleton. Sons, Mel (Rebecca) Cowan of Birmingham, Alabama, and Dr. Daryl (Joni) Cowan of Pendleton; grandchildren; Kimberly Saunders (Shaun), Karri Low (Caleb), Whitney Strange (Justin), Keaton Wooden (Abby), Andrew Cowan (Isis), Kimberly Criddle (Brandon), Alicia Holloway, Chase Odom, Alec Cowan, Ryle Cowan, Nicolas Cowan, and Kaitlyn Cowan; 11 great-grandchildren, Madison and Kaleb Saunders, Colt, Beau, and Judd Strange, Sawyer and Lainey Low, Eshe and Evelyn Cowan, Landon and Collins Holloway, and a Sister in law Glenna Schneck in St. Augustine, Florida. Also, surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband L.Harold Cowan, her parents Leonard and Dorothy Shaw, brother George Shaw, and sister Betty Shaw. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 1:30 pm at Robert Loose Funeral Home and Crematory in Anderson, Indiana with Pastor Keith Wooden officiating. Burial to follow at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery. Friends may call at the Robert Loose Funeral Home and Crematory on Monday March 10th, 2025, from 11:30 am until the time of the service at 1:30 pm.
