Beth Ann Newcomer-Barr

Beth Ann Newcomer-Barr, 64, of Wabash, Indiana, passed away on July 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was born on October 20, 1961, in Marion, Indiana. Beth Ann graduated from Northfield Jr.-Sr. High School before earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Hanover College. She dedicated her life to serving others. She worked as a Social Worker for Area 5 Central Indiana Council on Aging, where she compassionately cared for individuals of all ages—from infants just a few weeks old to adults well over 100 years old. Beth Ann believed every person deserved dignity, respect, compassion, and someone willing to advocate for them. She also worked as a substitute teacher in numerous school districts throughout Indiana. While she enjoyed teaching students of all ages, she found she greatly enjoyed working with at-risk youth, believing every child deserved patience, encouragement, understanding, and someone who believed in them. Above all else, Beth Ann’s greatest joy was being a mother. Her daughter, Laura, was the center of her world, the person she was most proud of, and the greatest blessing of her life. There was nothing Beth Ann nor Laura treasured more than the unconditional love and unbreakable bond they shared. Through every season of life, they remained each other’s greatest source of strength, support, and love, creating a lifetime of cherished memories together. Beth Ann found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved tending her flower gardens, solving crossword puzzles, and spending time with a good book. She treasured her lifelong friendship with her college friend, Vipada of Thailand, and enjoyed staying connected throughout the years. She also loved traveling with Laura, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Although she had a fear of deep water and confined spaces, she courageously set those fears aside to experience a submarine excursion while visiting Hawai’i with her daughter. This became one of their favorite adventures and treasured memories. Beth Ann’s compassion extended to every living creature. She had a lifelong love of animals and welcomed many beloved pets into her home over the years. Her surviving cats, Garage Kitty and KitKat, remained faithfully by her side during her final days, along with several cherished grand-fur babies who brought her comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. Beth Ann is survived by her daughter, Laura Katharine Grace Barr of Ingalls, Indiana; her mother, Dorothy (Hale) Newcomer of Wabash, Indiana; her sister, Donna M. Watkins of Jacksonville, Florida; her brother, John A. (Beth T) Newcomer of Wabash, Indiana; her sister, Evelyn “Chris” Baughman of Wabash, Indiana; her bonus son, TJ Hook of Ingalls, Indiana; her niece, Erin (Aughinbaugh) Willis of Wabash, Indiana; her nephew, James Niccum of Jacksonville, Florida; several great-nieces and great-nephews; her beloved cats, Garage Kitty and KitKat; and several cherished grand-fur babies. She was preceded in death by her father, James Allen Newcomer, grandparents, and many beloved fur babies who held a special place in her heart. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at Charley Creek Falls in Wabash, Indiana, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Little Red Door Cancer Agency, a nonprofit organization (www.littlereddoor.org/donate), or to your local humane society in Beth Ann’s memory. Beth Ann will be remembered for her quiet strength, compassionate heart, unwavering love for her family, and her lifelong commitment to helping others. Whether caring for a client, encouraging a student, rescuing an animal, or simply spending time with those she loved, she left every life she touched a little better than she found it.
