Bessie Marie Newman

Anderson - Bessie Marie Mutt Newman, 89, Anderson, passed away July 19, 2010 at St. Johns Health System, Anderson Indiana after a brief illness. She was born October 15, 1920 in Marion, Indiana, and resided in Anderson, Indiana. She retired from Delco Remy Division of General Motors Plant 6. She was a life member of the Phi Chi Epsilon Sorority, and enjoyed over 60 years of special lifelong friendships with several members, She volunteered her time with the Reach to Recovery, Operation Love and School Tutor programs. Most recently, her life was thoroughly enriched by the close friendships of sorority members, Bev McIntyre, Barbara Canine, Elva Mae Hamilton, Carole Orebaugh, Sue Harvey and Bev Mart. They enjoyed playing cards and watching Colts games together. The family is deeply appreciative of the expert care and support provided by Dr. Juthani and Dr. Jetty; employees of Saint John's Health System, especially the Chaplains, and staff of the 3rd and 4th floors. A sincere thank you to her special friends, VaRae Blount and Sharon Gossage. She is survived by her son, Larry Newman of Hardin, Kentucky; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She had a special niece and friend, whom she journaled as "her angel", Pauletta Alfieri, who provided heartfelt care and comfort. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Victor Newman; her parents, Sam and Grace Adkins Mutt; four brothers, Ollie Mutt, Harold Diko, Sam Mutt and James Mutt and two sisters, Marjorie Mroz and Sarah Landseadel. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 PM on Friday, July 23, 2010 at Robert D. Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory; 200 W. 53rd Street; Anderson and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Services will be Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Mark Helm of St. Matthew United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Anderson.
